Two things that have been bringing us joy lately have been the chance to explore summertime cocktails and the nomination of Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential candidate.
We’ve combined both of these joys into a special cocktail we've created in honor of Vice President Harris.
The Kamala Cocktail didn't just fall out of a coconut tree. It finds inspiration in the classic tiki-cocktails popularized in the US during the mid-twentieth century. As the featured spirits, we chose a Jamaican dark rum in honor of the vice president's paternal heritage and Bombay Sapphire gin in honor of her maternal Indian roots. Coconut water gives the drink a silky sweetness that make it a refreshing cocktail to enjoy while watching the upcoming Democratic National Convention, as well as during the last days of summer.
The Kamala

4 oz coconut water
1 oz Bombay Sapphire London dry gin
1 oz Jamaican dark rum
½ oz simple syrup
Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a coupe. Garnish with toasted coconut flakes that seemingly fall into the glass.
