Frank’s Special is a peach martini created by Frank Meier, the legendary bartender who worked at the Ritz Paris during the Nazi occupation of France. Meier, like many of the hotel’s employees, was an active member of the French Resistance. He provided fake IDs to Jewish guests looking to flee the country, and he is believed to have passed messages between German officers who were plotting to assassinate Hitler and Goring.
But Meier was also a highly skilled mixologist. In 1936, at the height of his career, Meier published The Artistry of Mixing Drinks, a guide to good manners and cocktails. Here is where Meier memorializes his famous cocktail creations, including the Bee’s Knees, the Seapea Fizz and Frank’s Special.
Ingredients 2 oz London Dry gin ¾ oz dry vermouth ¼ oz peach liqueur
Combine the ingredients in a mixing glass. Add ice and stir until well chilled. Strain into a coupe and garnish with a peach slice or lemon twist.
